LANXESS
LANXESS is a leading specialty chemicals company with sales of EUR 7.7 billion in 2016 and about 19,200 employees in 25 countries. The company is currently represented at 75 production sites worldwide. The core business of LANXESS is the development, manufacturing and marketing of chemical intermediates, additives, specialty chemicals and plastics. Through ARLANXEO, the joint venture with Saudi Aramco, LANXESS is also a leading supplier of synthetic rubber. LANXESS is listed in the leading sustainability indices Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI World) and FTSE4Good.
LANXESS is committed to the SDGs and that supporting the SDGs will actually drive their own success as a company in the end. In 2016, against this backdrop, LANXESS started reviewing their current sustainability position and analyze the interlinkage of their activities with the SDGs. Their impact valuation concept shows how their business activities influence the SDGs. The concept of the SDGs has also been part of their product portfolio assessment, where they assess the sustainability performance of their product portfolio from an economic, environmental and social perspective – also against the SDGs. Finally, LANXESS reviewed their contribution to the goals by corporate initiatives.
The results show the manifold contributions LANXESS already makes today – and also make equally clear what strategic challenges the chemical industry faces: achieving consistent growth while making responsible use of resources, avoiding harmful emissions into the environment, and ensuring the health and safety of employees and partners.
